What is a Cofest Project?
A Cofest Project is a collaborative effort—not necessarily a narrowly defined goal—where you and others explore a topic, share knowledge, write code, or develop tools together in person.
Ideally, it’s something that benefits from real-time planning, feedback, and discussion.
Example Projects to Join
Here are a few ideas you can jump into—or use as inspiration for your own:
R Shiny Packaging
Collaborate with Galaxy devs to package an analysis in R Shiny and deploy it on Galaxy.
Tool Wrapping
Wrap a new Galaxy or Bioconductor tool to streamline installation and integration.
Bioconductor Package Dev
Get feedback on a package idea or dive in as a maintainer, learning best practices from experienced developers.
Tool YAMLs & Support
Extend or refine tool YAMLs for better compatibility across systems.
ML in Galaxy
Build and integrate machine-learning tools into the Galaxy framework.
Galaxy Papercuts
Fix one-off bugs, get hands-on mentoring, and help improve Galaxy core.
Bioconductor Papercuts
Bring your questions or bugs about Bioconductor and work directly with the maintainers.
ChatGXY Enhancements
Help evolve the new ChatGXY AI assistant integrated into Galaxy.
How to Work on a Cofest Project
Before CoFest, we’ll gather all submitted ideas and assign point contacts. At the kickoff, the project leads will will be given the opportunity to share a brief description of their project, and then you can dive hands-on into a project of your preference!
No experience level required—there’s something here for everyone.
